Made by mixing normal grade chips and modified low melting point chips. Low melt fiber can be melted at lower temperatures (110C to 130C) than normal (260C) and bonded with other fibers like solid polyester and recycled materials.
Non-woven fibers are run through either a hot-air oven, a calendar or an infra-red heater. This leads to soldering the fibers together when the low melt fibers melt and flow around the standard polyester fibers. For high loft non-woven, this is the primary bonding method and a secondary one when needled non-woven fibers are to be heated to give more strength.
Properties of Low Melt Fiber
The fiber is used in different applications as it is highly resilient.
